John F. Wartha.
Funeral services for John F. Wartha, 89, former South Bend resident who died Oct 2 in Browns's Veteran Hospita, Dayton, Ohio, will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday in chapel on the hospital grounds, with burial in the Veterans cemetery there.
Mr. Wartha was born Aug. 26, 1883 in South Bend. His wife, Rose Gruse, also of South Bend, died in 1962. Mr. Wartha resided in South Bend until about 15 years ago when he went to Dayton. His survivors are two sons, Roy, South Bend, and Thomas, of Leavenworth, Kans.; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Paszli, South Bend, and Mrs. Mary Ann Hall, North Ridge, Calif.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Mr. Wartha was a veteran of the U.S. Calvalry in he Spanish-American War.
