OBITUARY:  ALFRED WASHBURN Sudden Death of a Well Known Osceola Citizen

Alfred Washburn, an old and well known resident of Osceola, died suddenly in the village on the 28th,   instant, of lagrippe. 

He was taken at 4 o’clock in the forenoon, and died at 2:15 in the afternoon of the same day, having been ill but a few hours. The deceased was born in Otsego County, N.Y., May 9th, 1821 making his age 73 years, 7 months and 19 days.  He came to Elkhart county in 1851, and moved to Osceola in 1866.  He was married in 1844 to Miss Emily Cleveland, a second cousin of President Cleveland.  To them but one child was born, C.M. Washburn, who, with the wife, survives to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.  The funeral was held on Sunday at 2 o’clock, from the residence, and was largely attended.   Rev. C.H. Murray officiated.
