SOUTH BEND - Betty L. Wasoski, 71, of South Bend, IN, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, in her home. She was born on Aug. 5, 1936, to the late Jonathan C. and Anita L. (Murphy) Calkins in Grayville, IL, and had lived in South Bend for 64 years, coming from Grayville. Along with her parents, one granddaughter, Kristi Morris, and one brother, Donald Calkins, also preceded her in death. Mrs. Wasoski had been employed part-time at Wygant Floral for several years, but she was above all a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

 

On February 19, 1955, as Betty L. Calkins, she married Richard D. Wasoski in St. Matthew Catholic Church, South Bend, IN. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard of 52 years; four daughters, Jacquelyn Jones and her husband, Jeff of Spring Valley, CA, Cynthia Bruntz and her husband, Robert of South Bend, IN, Theresa Tamer and her husband, Todd of Marietta, GA, Mary Green and her husband, Maury of South Bend, IN; three sons, Richard A. Wasoski and his wife, Margie, David Wasoski and his wife, Michelle, and Jonathan Wasoski and his wife, Corkie, all of South Bend, IN; 19 grandchildren, Adrianna Spicuzza, Jason Jones, Travis, Jeremy and Clayton Bruntz, Meghan and Kyle Tamer, Josh, Laura and Jonathan Morris, Emily, Juan, Roman and Brianna Wasoski, Ryan, Brandon and Austen Wasoski, Nathan and Madelyn Wasoski; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Rae Spicuzza; two sisters, Joyce Calkins of Mishawaka, IN, and Gwen Smith of Merrit Island, FL; and a very special sister-in-law who resided with her, Loretta Royce.

 

Betty was a member of Corpus Christi Parish where she was a Eucharistic Minister at the church. She also served as a Bun Day Lady and gym teacher at Corpus Christi School during the 1970s. Mrs. Wasoski was a member of Right to Life, and a past member of Knights of Columbus Wives Council #5570. She was very active in Chet Waggoner Little League for many years, and was an avid sports fan, especially Notre Dame women's basketball.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today (Friday, November 30, 2007) in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a parish Rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, in Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev.
