Helen Lucille De Maegd Weeks

Helen Lucille De Maegd-Weeks, 89, of South Bend, passed away on the morning of Thursday, June 22 in Valley View Health Care Center, Elkhart. Helen was born in Mishawaka on November 13, 1916, as the daughter of Roy and Georgian (Shaffer) Jewell. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Judy Ann De Maegd in 1941; a brother, Roy Jewell Jr.; and sister, Vera Partridge.

 

Surviving Helen are three children, Carolyn (Jim) Morgan of Murphy, Texas, Ruth (Ron) Regina of South Bend and Mark (Gwen) De Maegd of Shelby, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Helen graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1935.

 

On May 5, 1937, she married Omer De Maegd. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1975. Helen loved to sing. She was a wonderful gardener. She also loved to sew and crochet. She was very active in the Mishawaka High School Alumni Association.

 

As per Helen's requests, there will be no visitation and no services. Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West, 8th Street, Mishawaka, has been entrusted with making the final arrangements. Special thanks to Hospice for all of their loving care and concern shown to Helen during this difficult time.
