Sister M. Florence Welsh CSC, 82, of Saint Mary’s Convent, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the convent. She was born Jan. 26, 1910 in Winchester, Ill. as Mary Helen Welsh. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on July 1, 1932; was received as a novice Jan. 6, 1933; and professed her final vows Jan. 6, 1935. She was a registered nurse and was a certified operating nurse. She was assigned to hospitals in Milwaukee; Jacksonville, Ill.; Cairo, Ill.; and Anderson, Ind. She served as chief nurse of the operating room from 1938 to 1951 at St. Joseph Medical Center in South Bend. Other assignments included the student infirmary at the University of Notre Dame, St. Mary’s Convent, and Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent.

 

Services will be at 32:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of Loretto at St. Mary’s, with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the convent parlors, where a wake will be at 7 p.m.
