Mildred Wenzel

SOUTH BEND — Mildred "Millie" Wenzel, 86, of Matthews Lane, South Bend, passed away after a sudden illness at 9:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, in Presbyterian Hospital, Denver, Colo.

 

Mrs. Wenzel was born on June 28, 1916, in Chicago, Ill., and resided in the Michiana area her lifetime.

 

On June 27, 1926, in Chicago, Ill., as Mildred Howatt, she married William C. Wenzel, who preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1991.

 

Millie is survived by a daughter, Judy L. Wenzel of South Bend; and a son, Dr. Wayne W. Wenzel, MD, of Denver; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, whom she loved and cherished; and by a sister, Margaret MacKenzie of North Port, Fla.

 

Mrs. Wenzel retired from K-Mart after many years of service. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active with the Women's Circle of St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

 

Millie was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family and spoke of them with so much pride and love. She will be sadly missed by her family, church family and all who knew her.

 

Visitation hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 51490 Laurel Road, South Bend. Friends will be received one hour prior to service time in the church. Officiating will be Rev. Gregory Fiechtner, with burial to follow at Southlawn Cemetery.

 

The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

 

The Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Wenzel family.
