MISHAWAKA - Gary Anthony Werner, 57, passed away in his home on Tuesday, August 26. Gary was born on November 29, 1950, in Mishawaka, to Paul and Kathryn (Rodwell) Werner. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Werner; a sister, Linda Werner; and a son, Paul Werner. On August 22, 1992, he married Jo An Schaetzle. Surviving Gary are his mother, Kathryn Werner of Mishawaka; wife, Jo An Schaetzle Werner; two children, Amber Werner of California and Arika Werner of Mishawaka; four stepchildren, Daniel (Ae Young) Schaetzle of Greenville, OH, Matthew (Ana) Schaetzle of Kona, Hawaii, Andrew (Susie) Schaetzle of Bourbon, IN, and Gina (James) Wenger of North Liberty, IN; 12 step-grandchildren, Bella, Adam, Julia, Jo Ana, Jonathon, William, Christian and Cody Schaetzle, Christopher, Alyssa, Michael and Conner Wenger. Also surviving are his brother, Ralph Werner of Mishawaka; a sister, Janet Belcher of Goshen; five nieces and four nephews. Gary was a veteran of the United States Army. He served his country proudly during the Vietnam War where he received the Bronze Star, the Silver Star and a Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Mishawaka High School and worked at AM General from 1977 to 2007.

 

Family and friends may visit today, Thursday, August 28, 2008, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Friday, August 29, at 10:00 a.m., with his nephew, Rev. Jamie Hart, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, where the VFW Post 360/American Legion Burial Squad will perform military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to World Vision, PO Box 70399, Tacoma, WA 98481-0399.
