Sister Mary Rosalita Whalen CSC

Sister Mary Rosalita CSC, died Monday afternoon in Saint Mary’s Convent after an extended illness. Her parents were Thomas Whalen and Mary Wheeler.  She was educated at St. Angela Academy in Morris, Ill., and entered the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1895, receiving the habit the same year. She made her profession of final vows in 1900. She received her bachelors degree from St. Mary’s College and her masters degree from the University of Notre Dame. During her community life she taught in Crawfordsville and Logansport in Indiana; Chatsworth and Morris in Illinois; Davenport, Iowa; Los Angeles; Alexandria, Va.; and Baltimore. She served as principal at St. Mary’s Academy for several years. Surviving are a sister, Sister M. Francis Borgia CSC and a niece, Sister M. Raphelita CSC, both of the Sisters of Holy Cross, and two cousins, Msgr. T. J. Jordan of Rock Island, Ill. and Rev. Francis J. Meechan of Logansport.

 

A requiem high mass will be offered at 6 a.m. Wednesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call in the convent parlor.
