James Edwin Whitfield

MISHAWAKA - James Edwin Whitfield, 70, of East Borley Avenue, died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Hospital, Mishawaka, after an illness. Mr. Whitfield retired in 1988 from Indiana & Michigan Electric Co. after 43 years. He was born Dec. 21, 1923, in Eldorado, Ill., and moved to Mishawaka in 1941. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Jo Quick of South Bend and Kathryn Lynn Hartley of Mishawaka; two grandsons; three sisters, Neva J. Yellich of Northridge, Calif., Nada ''Tootsie'' Senger of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Juanita ''Peggy'' Heirman of Mishawaka; and three brothers, Elmer T. of South Bend, Leonard L. of Mishawaka and William D. of Port Clinton, Ohio.

 

He was a member of Wander Conservation Club and Michiana Walleye Association. He wrote articles and was active in preservation of natural resources, pollution prevention and conservation of natural wildlife and had written poetry.

 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Indiana Wildlife Commission or Michiana Walleye Association.
