Thomas O. Wiegand

April 10, 1947 - Dec. 29, 1998

Thomas O. Wiegand, 51, of Lilly Road, South Bend died at 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, in his residence. He was born on April 10, 1947 in South Bend to Ernest and Ruth (Hartman) Wiegand, both of whom survive and reside in Lakeville, Indiana.

On March 31, 1984, in Lakeville, he married Jeri Niedbalski, who survives. Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Tamara Huyvaert of Mishawaka; a son, William Keller of South Bend; two grandsons, Robert Thomas Huyvaert and Matthew Huyvaert, both of Mishawaka; his parents; two sisters, Georgianna Fuchs of Lakeville and Kathleen Bennett of Jacksonville, Florida, and a brother Jerry Wiegand of Walkerton, Indiana. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Danny and Dennis Wiegand.

Mr. Wiegand was past President of the National Spinal Cord Injury Foundation. He helped pass the Blue Curb Law and served on the board of Transpo. Mr. Wiegand was co-owner of The Michiana Center for Independent Living.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. There will be no services. Cremation will take place.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

There was nobody more loved than Tom, by his wife, family and grandchildren.
