Services for Rev. Gordon W. Wilcox CSC, 56, of Moreau Seminary at Notre Dame, who died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Medical Center, South Bend after a brief illness, will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday in Sacred Heart Church at Notre Dame. Burial will be in Community Cemetery at Notre Dame. Friends may call from 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Moreau Seminary Chapel, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.

 

He was born July 9, 1928 in Cleveland, where he attended St. Augustine Academy Elementary School and University High School. He entered the Sacred Heart Novitiate here in 1947, making his first profession of vows on Aug. 16, 1952; and being ordained to the priesthood in Sacred Heart Church on June 8, 1955. After education he taught at St. George’s College, Santiago, Chili, from 1955 to 1960, and earned a masters degree in education from the University of Portland in 1962. From 1963 to 1969 he taught Spanish, along with his duties as director of studies at Notre Dame High School in Niles, Ill. From 1969 to 1978 he was on the faculty of Moreau High School in Hayward, Calif., as teacher, assistant principal and principal. From 1978 to 1980 he was director and chaplain of the University of Portland Center in Salzburg, Austria. He was appointed assistant superior in 1980 of Holy Cross community at the University of Portland, where he also served as rector of one the residence halls and in the office of International Students. In 1983, after several months with the Carthusian Charterhouse of Transfiguration in Arlington, Vt. He was assigned to the formation staff at Moreau Seminary. Most recently he was the founding director of the Solicitude of Our Savior, a Holy Cross house of contemplative prayer near Three Oaks.
