Douglas Edwin Wilder

MISHAWAKA - Douglas E. Wilder, 66, of Mishawaka, passed away on Saturday, October 10, 2009, in his residence. Doug was born on September 29, 1943, in Lawrenceville, GA, to the late Eldridge and Hallie (Herrington) Wilder. Doug served his country in the United States Navy, receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. While in Naval training in Pensacola, FL, he met his wife, the former Georgiann Bodie. They were married on November 6, 1964. Doug and Georgiann shared 44 years of marriage together. Survivors include his wife, Georgiann; three sons, Vincent Eric (Jonah) Wilder of Osceola, Christopher Shane (Tammy) Wilder and Dustin Cory Wilder, and his girlfriend Chanelle Broyles, both of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Justen, Maggie, Brodie and Owen. He is also survived by three sisters, Clara "Sis" Smith, Shirley Mitchell and Mary "Elizabeth" McElhanon, all of Georgia. He was preceded in death by a son, Brian Mathew Wilder, two brothers, Claude and Carl "Bud" Wilder, and by a sister, Patricia Russ. He enjoyed being with his grandchildren, and watching his favorite sporting events. Doug worked for Pepsi-Cola in South Bend where he was employed as a manager for 41 years; he retired in 2007. Doug was known as "Pops" to his children and "Paw Paw" to his grandchildren. He will be missed. There will be no services. A future family memorial dinner is being planned. Bubb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
