Obituary: Melvin F. Williams

Dec. 20, 1923 -- June 28, 2005

                                       

Melvin Floyd Williams, 81, of South Logan Street, South Bend, formerly of East 3rd Street, Mishawaka, passed away in his home at 2:05 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28.

Melvin was born on Dec. 20, 1923, in Waterloo, AL, to Morris and Cora (Hipp) Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by four brothers, Arlis, Boyd, M.O. and Doyle Williams.

On March 11, 1952, in Roseland, he married the former Cherry Sue Wallace, who preceded him in death on June 22, 2005.

Surviving Melvin are four sons, David L. of Las Vegas, NV, Michael L of South Bend, Claude M. (Tracy) of Florissant, MO, and Melvin F. Jr. of Mishawaka; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Agnes Benson of Roswell, GA.

Melvin was a supervisor for Sears in the appliance department for 28 years before he retired in 1984. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country proudly during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 360 and the Battell Center. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, June 30, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, in the funeral home, with Rev. Sam Boys officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka, with military graveside services led by the VFW Post 360 burial squad.
