John Wincek

May 21, 1920 - March 31, 1995

SOUTH BEND - Private services for John Wincek, 74, of West Washington Street, who died at 3:20 p.m. Friday in his home after an illness, will be at a later date. Cremation will take place, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William, where a rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Hospice of St. Joseph County.

 

Mr. Wincek was a journeyman plumber for Local 172, retiring in 1981. He was born May 21, 1920, in South Bend.

 

On March 7, 1942, in Michigan City, he married Beverly Loutzenhiser. She survives with three daughters, Sheila O'Dell and Nancy Shultz, both of Mishawaka, and Peggy Flowers of Lawrence; a son, Eric of South Bend; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Rose Wincek, Elizabeth Golochowski and Mary Zielinski, all of South Bend. A daughter, Barbara Wincek, died in 1944.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and took part in the D-Day invasion and the liberation of Holland. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Veteran of Foreign War Post 9820, American Legion Post 50, and a member of 101st Airborne Association.
