Velma Winston

July 4, 1913 - April 21, 1997

Mrs. Velma Winston, 83, of 1252 Corby Blvd., passed away on Monday, April 21. On July 4, 1913, in Bolivar, Tenn., she was born to the union of Jerry and Ethel Polk. She was united in wedlock to Sam Winston on July 30, 1955; in Greenwood, Miss. He preceded her in death. In 1955, Mrs. Winston moved to South Bend, Ind.

Mrs. Winston leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, Clara B. Williams, four sons, Sam L. (Marnette) Winston of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Alvin (Claudette) Winston, Joseph (Anne) Winston and Calvin (Lenise) Winston, all of South Bend- 31 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren, and 26 greatgreat-grandchildren. Three children preceded her in death, William N. Winston, Sr., Mildred Shane and Jewell E. Young. She was a member of the Deaconness Board, Nurses Unit, Missionary Society, Sunday School. She was also a former member of Martin Luther King Senior Citizen Club.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, in Pilgrim Baptist Church. Visitation will be in Alford's Mortuary from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday April 24. Alford's Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
