Walter Wolak

Walter Wolak, 87, of White Maple Court, South Bend, Ind., died on Monday, Feb. 25, in the Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. Walter was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Chicago, Ind., to Andrew and Annie Wolak.

 

On Aug. 6, 1937, Walter married Henrietta Kurlanski, who survives. He is also survived by a son, Fred (Janice) Wolak of South Bend; a daughter, Joan (Thomas F.) Hammer of California; two grandsons, Mark (Bonnie) Elledge of Cassopolis, Mich., and Donald (Mindy) Elledge of Angola, Ind.; one step-granddaughter, Theresa (Dave) Sommer of South Bend; four great-grandchildren, Travis, Chad, Jordan and Ryan Elledge; and by one step-great-grandchild, Adam Knapp. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

 

Walter was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers Allied Craftworkers Local #4 of Indiana and Kentucky, and has since retired. He belonged to Corpus Christi Catholic Church.

Family and friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend. Service swill be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 1, in the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
