Joseph Wolter, Sr.

Joseph Wolter, Sr., loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died unexpectedly on Jan. 20, 2000 at the age of 84. He was born on Nov. 8, 1915, to Grace (Louthan) and Joseph Wolter in South Bend, Ind.

Joe worked for the South Bend Lathe Works before opening his own photography store in Mishawaka. During those years on Lincolnway West, he and his wife, Jane, who survives, shared with their three children many trips to the Canadian wilderness, instilling in them a love for nature. After retirement, Grandpa and Grandma traveled abroad frequently, enjoying the heritage of Europe and their roots.

Dad is survived by our mother, Jane; two sons, Joseph A. (Christine) of South Bend and W. Dennis (Mary) of Wilmette, Ill.; a daughter, Carol (J. Anthony) Ernst of Granger; 10 grandchildren (six spouses); by and nine great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 24 in the St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka. Fr. Robert A. Yast, pastor of St. Joseph Church, where Joe was a member, and Fr. Anthony Puchenski will officiate. He will be buried in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 23 in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, 503 W. Third St., Mishawaka, where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m.
