Marianne L. Woolsey

Marianne L. Woolsey, 67, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 2:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in Hospice House, South Bend, IN. Mrs. Woolsey was born on November 6, 1932 in Wawaka, Noble County, IN to Frederick Alton and Margaretta (Randolph) Lower.

 

On March 28, 1953, she married James E. Woolsey, son of Theodore Temple and Lucinda Mae (Johnson) Woolsey. She was a graduate of Purdue University and Ball State Teachers College. She taught school for thirty-six years beginning with West Rock Creek of Huntington County, three years at Petroleum Schools of Wells County, two years at Hoagland Schools of Allen County, one year in the Monmouth School of Adams County and twenty-nine and a half years at New Prairie. She was a professional clown, well known as "Beanie the Clown", participating in local parades for more than 24 years. She also served in many offices of the local chapter of Delta Beta Phi Epsilon, was secretary of the New Carlisle Park Board, on the board of Wee Care, and was very active at the New Carlisle United Methodist Church.

 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Olin Lower, Robert Lower; and two sisters, Roberta Lower and Nellie Goings. Mrs. Woolsey is survived by her husband, James Woolsey, her children, Beth Jalaine (David) Wheat of LaPorte, Texas, Gail Eileen (Anthony) Faircloth of Pensacola, FL, Jonathan Temple (Kathryn Hostetter) Woolsey of Fort Wayne, IN, her grandchildren, James E.C. Wheat, Ethan C.L. Wheat, Samuel D.T. Faircloth, Grace E. Woolsey, Emma K. Woolsey, and her brother, O.V. (Dick) Lower of Kenton, OH.

 

A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2000, with family visitation beginning at 2:30 p.m. in the New Carlisle United Methodist Church at the corner of Timothy Rd. and Compton St. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House, Wee Care Pre-School or New Carlisle United Methodist Church.
