Otho V. Wordinger

Oct. 30, 1923 - Aug. 1, 2001

Otho V. Wordinger, 77, of W. Rose Street, passed away at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Wordinger was born on October 30, 1923, in Wyatt, IN, to Edward and Bernice (Baugher) Wordinger, who both preceded him in death. Three brothers, Leonard, Gerald and Kenneth Wordinger, also preceded him in death. He retired in 1987 from the Wheelabrator-Frye Corporation as a quality control supervisor. He was previously married to Pauline Taylor; they divorced in 1974. On February 14, 1976, in South Bend, he married Phyllis G. Stanage, who survives. Also surviving are his children, Sue (Robert) Schaffner of Granger, IN, Gary (Debby) Wordinger of North Manchester, IN, Don (Kelly) Caparell of Mishawaka, IN; eight grandchildren, Brian Wordinger, Ann Hostetler, Thomas, Sean, Keldon and Hillary Caparell, Samantha and Nichole Hoffman; five great- grandchildren, Kelsey West, Courtney Hostetler, Kayle, Kyle and Kolin Caparell; and by his sister, Elvera Schalliol of Mishawaka, IN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 4, 2001, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Burial will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, where military services will be conducted. Friends may call from 2 until 8 PM Friday in the funeral home, where members of the Osceola Lodge No. 742 F.& A.M. will conduct a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Mr. Wordinger served in the European Campaign during W.W. II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #284, V.F.W. Post #4025, D.A.V. White Eagle Chapter #39, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend, and the Osceola Lodge No. 742, F.&A.M. He enjoyed helping his friends, neighbors, and all of the children in the neighborhood. He was always happy when he had projects to do or stories to tell.
