George Wullaert

George Wullaert, 90, of Monmoor Avenue, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 6:35 a.m. on Thursday, March 4, in his residence. Mr. Wullaert was born on Nov. 13, 1908, in Ruysselede, Belgium, to the late Rene` and Mary Valerie (Heytens) Wullaert.

 

On Nov. 20, 1941, George married the former Elizabeth Fotia, who survives. He is also survived by five daughters, Mary Arlene (Gary) Groshans of Mishawaka, Georgina (Larry) DeLaruelle of South Bend, Ind., Patricia DeLaruelle of Fishers, Ind., Janice (Steve) VanVooren of Osceola, Ind., and Kathleen Wullaert of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Rozmarynowski, Kristina Beaver and Jocelyn DeLaruelle, all of South Bend, Mark Groshans of Mishawaka, Julie and Cynthia VanVooren of Osceola, Heather Dewaelsche of Fishers, Matthew DeLaruelle of St. Louis, Mo., and Jacqueline DeLaruelle of Houston, Texas; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Rozmarynowski of South Bend; and by a niece, Janis Gordon of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a sister, Henrietta Schultz.

 

George had been employed at the Studebaker Corporation for 25 years until 1963, and had also worked at the University of Notre Dame for six years until 1980. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, a member of the Notre Dame Subway Alumni, and was a former member of the BK Club in Mishawaka.

 

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 8, in St. Joseph Church, with Fr. Robert A. Yast officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
