Aug. 21, 1960 - May 20, 2010 SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth Marie Martin-Yaw, R.N., B.S.N., 49, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, May 20, 2010, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born August 21, 1960, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of the late Robert O. and Gene (Blech) Martin. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1978 and Memorial Hospital of South Bend School of Nursing in 1981. She then earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Indiana University in 1991. She was a nurse for a total of 29 years, having spent 20 of those years at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. While at Memorial Hospital, Elizabeth spent most of her career in the ICU - CCU units. Elizabeth was also a Director of Home Health Care for Ancilla Home Health Care and was a visiting nurse for Apria. She worked in the critical care, cardiac and ICU units at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, St. Joseph Hospital in South Bend, and ending at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. On March 8, 2006, in Kokomo, IN, she married Larry Yaw of South Bend, who survives. In addition to Larry, Elizabeth is survived by her son, Justin R. Yaw of South Bend; three stepdaughters, Ellen Yaw of Mishawaka, Amy Yaw of Lutz, FL, and Brianne Yaw of Lutz, FL; and one sister, Kim Blech of South Bend. Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of First United Methodist Church of South Bend. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother to Justin, a great nurse and an awesome cook. Funeral services for Elizabeth will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, with Rev. Mary Hubbard of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2010, in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Elizabeth may be made to Palmer Funeral Home to help with funeral expenses. Excess funds will be put into an education fund for Justin.
