Roy Andrew Yoder

Roy Andrew "Duke" Yoder, 82, passed away on Monday, April 26, at his residence in Fort Myers, Fla. He was born Aug. 30, 1921, to Clyde Andrew and Emma Koehler Yoder in South Bend, Ind., and was a lifelong resident of the Michiana area until his retirement in 1987.

 

Duke graduated from Riley High School in 1940, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Notre Dame University and Wabash College. On Aug. 25, 1945, he married Elizabeth Virginia Honold in Mishawaka, Ind. Duke owned the South Bend Roofing and Siding Company for over 30 years. He was a licensed aircraft pilot, and an avid sailor and power boat enthusiast.

 

Roy is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Jeffery C. Yoder of Salt Lake City, Utah; and daughters, Elizabeth Yoder Baker (Pat) of Marcellus, Mich., and Andrea Yoder Colwell (Allen) of Altoona, Wis. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Michael Baker, Robert Colwell and Benjamin Colwell.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, DeVere and Robert Yoder.

 

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service and interment will occur June 19, 2004, at Mission Hills Memorial Chapel Crematory and Garden in Niles, Mich. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in memory of Roy Yoder be made to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, 2000 Circle of Hope, Salt Lake City. UT 84112.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mission Hills Memorial Chapel, Crematory and Gardens, and the Pifer-SMITH Funeral Home.
