Harold O. Zander

Harold O. Zander, 68, Rt. 5, Kootz Lake, Walkerton, formerly od South Bend, died at 3 a.m. today in New Castle, Ind., where he was visiting his son, following a lengthy illness.

 

He retired in 1963 from the design and drafting department of the Studebaker Corp.

 

He was born Aug. 10, 1908 in Michigan City and moved to South Bend from there.

 

On Jan 4, 1932, in Michigan City, he married Genevieve Rieck, who died on Jan. 1, 1977.Survivors are a son, Wayne O. of Newcastle; four grandchildren; two stepsisters, both of Oakland, Calif, and his stepmother, Mrs E. O. Zander of Danville, Calif.

 

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, Rev. Robert C. Bowman, former pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Walkerton, officiating.

 

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

 

Zander conducted the Hal Zander Casa Dell Rio Orchestra, which played at the Oasis Park Ballroom at Washington Park, Michigan City. He was a member of Lodge 45, F&AM; the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of South Bend Orak Shrine Temple; Chapter 2 O.E.S.; South Bend Shrine Club and Orakl Temple Brass Band. He was also a member of American Federation of Musicians. The F&AM will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
