Lt. Col. Robert A. Zehring

MISHAWAKA - Retired Lt. Col. Robert A. Zehring, 66, of Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Mishawaka, died Friday in Mesa of natural causes. Mr. Zehring retired from the U.S. Air Force after 27 years of service. He was born July 12, 1929, in Mishawaka. Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Conlon of Muncie, Ind.; a son, Anthony of Carson City, Nev.; six grandchildren; a sister, Mary Ann Kalka of Mishawaka; and a brother, Gene of Mesa. He graduated in 1952 from Ball State University, where he was a member of ROTC and was AAU diving champion. He was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma Fraternity. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars and Apollo Space Program. He was recognized by NASA for his service as chief information officer at Patrick Air Force Base and by the commander-in-chief of the Pacific for outstanding service as chief information officer at Hickam Air Force Base.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home. Cremation will take place, with burial at Gardens of Memory, Muncie. Friends may call one hour before services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.
