Kenneth L. Zeiger

May 27, 1924 - March 27, 1999

Kenneth L. Zeiger, 74, of Folkstone Court, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 11:53 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, at St. Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka.

Kenneth was born on May 27, 1924, in Madison Township, Mishawaka, as the son of Glen and Mabel (Geyer) Zeiger.

On Jan. 17, 1945, in Mishawaka, Ken married the former Virginia Kaiser, who survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Janet (Richard) Cress of Elkhart, Ind., Barbara Schmidt of Mishawaka; a son, James (Jan) Zeiger of Columbus, Ind.; ten grandchildren, Timothy (Kelly) Cress, Dawn Cress, Paul (Susan) Cress, Patrick (Donna) Cress, Pamela Wilson, Richard (Danielle) Schmidt, Kenneth Schmidt, Shannon Schmidt, Tracie Zeiger and Jim Zeiger, Jr.; and by eight great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter.

Mr. Zeiger worked for American Distributing for many years as a sales representative and he also worked for the Mishawaka School Corporation for ten years before retiring in 1991. Mr. Zeiger was also the owner and operator of Zeiger Welding and Small Engine Repair in Mishawaka. He was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran serving with the 3rd Bomb division in the 447th bomb group, receiving three bronze stars, a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters, and his Good Conduct Medal. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 308 in Osceola, Ind.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home, with Rev. Erv. Mize officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery, Granger, Ind.
