Alfred H. Zeiler

Alfred Henry Zeiler, 86, of Harrison Road, Mishawaka, passed away Friday, Oct. 28.

Alfred was born on July 2, 1919, in Tubingen, Germany, to Benedict and Genevieve (Vogel) Zeiler. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alfred H. Zeiler Jr. on Feb. 25, 1986; and a grandson, Kevin Zeiler.

Alfred and sister Ann joined their parents in 1928 in the United States, coming from Germany. On Oct. 3, 1940, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, he married the former Barbara Blech, who preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 1987.

Surviving Alfred are three children, Patricia (Ray) Kline of Osceola, Barbara (Larry) Lymangrover of North Liberty, and a son, Fred Zeiler of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren, Edward (Landa) and Roland Lymangrover, Ann (Jim) Bumb, Raymond H. Kline, Kurt (Lori) and Katherine Zeiler, and Karen (Mike) Demske; and a sister, Ann Hood of Mishawaka.

He was a self-employed co-owner with his wife Barbara of Zeiler Electric Mishawaka until 1959 when he started and owned and operated Zeiler Manufacturing until 2000. Alfred was a United States Navy veteran, a member of the Elkhart Moose, KofC Council #1878 Mishawaka and the German Club, National Dredging Association and the National Sand and Gravel Association.

Al will be dearly missed by his family and friends, and will be always remembered as a kind and gentle man.

Visitation will be today, Oct. 30, from 2 to 6 p.m., where a Rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Oct. 31, in Holy Cross Catholic Church, 920 Wilbur St., South Bend, with Rev. Michael Wurtz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 360 and American Legion Post 161.
