MISHAWAKA - Ellis Zerbe, 85, of 403 Calhoun Street, was dead on arrival at 11:05 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack. He was the owner of Zerbe Garage for 50 years, retiring 10 years ago. He was born on Sept. 30, 1890 in Larwill, Ind., and lived here since moving here from Syracuse in 1909.

On Aug. 7, 1912, in Mishawaka, he married Ellen M. DeClercq, who survives, along with a daughter Mrs. John Keller of Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Lola Ermus of Elkhart and Mrs. Lima Couch of Dayton, Ohio.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the Thallemer Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Rev. William Gieranowski, pastor, will officiate and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.
