Betty A. Zimmerman

Betty A. (Worth) Zimmerman, 70, of Donald Street, South Bend, Ind., died following a brief illness at 4:55 a.m. on Sunday, April 19, in Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Zimmerman retired from Indiana Bell as the first female district service supervisor in 1984 after 35 years service. She was born on March 3, 1928, in Hammond, Ind., and had lived in South Bend since 1949, coming from Ottumwa, Iowa.

 

On July 1, 1962, in Elkhart, Ind., she married Jack Zimmerman, who survives. She is also survived by three daughters, Cynthia Sulentic of Anaheim, Calif., and Marsha Snyder and Jill Heavner of Granger, Ind.; two sons, Steven Sulentic of North Liberty, Ind., and Craig Sulentic of Burnsville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Daniel, J.D., and Nichole Snyder, Steven Sulentic, Jr., and Michael, Christina, Sara, Nathaniel and Rebecca Sulentic, and Sheila and Jay Barker; three great-grandchildren, Kala and Slate Sulentic, and Ariana Snyder; her mother, Ethel J. Beadle of Ottumwa; and by three sisters, Shirley Harrington of Ottumwa, Loretta Isban of South Bend and Jeanette Flanagan of Union City, Calif. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Liane Lori Snyder.

 

Mrs. Zimmerman was a member of the American Business Women's Association, Altrusa and Questers, and had held offices in each of those organizations. She also attended Clay United Methodist Church.

 

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road. Rev. Samuel Brookshire of Clay United Methodist Church officiated. Entombment followed in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes or to Riley Children's Hospital. Betty Ann Worth Zimmerman went on to be with her Heavenly Father, our Lord Jesus Christ, and peace.
