SOUTH BEND - Henry J. Ziolkowski, 88, of South Bend, died peacefully in his home at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 26, 1919, to the late Frank and Blanche (Jankowski) Ziolkowski in South Bend, IN. Along with his parents, his siblings, Eugene, Aloysius, Casimer, Joseph and Irene Pawlak, preceded him in death.

On May 8, 1944, Henry and Genevieve (Kaczorowski) were married at St. Adalbert's Catholic Church in South Bend and remained in South Bend for 64 wonderful years. Besides his wife, survivors include his son, Dennis (Barbara Kawka), along with grandsons, Bryan of Indianapolis, Craig of Cincinnati and Keith of Muncie, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Henry was employed by the former Dana Cook Typesetting Co. and Rupel Typesetting Co. of South Bend. He retired from Lock Joint Tube, Inc. Henry was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and always enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He was a simple man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Henry's hobbies included playing the organ, woodworking, fixing anything and everything, building puzzles, and ND football. Henry was an active lifelong member and volunteer of St. Adalbert's Catholic Church. He served on the parish council during the tenure of Father Leonard Chrobot. He was known by his friends as the "handyman of St. Al's" because of his love of woodworking, and he built the Nativity Scene as well as many additional projects. He will be remembered for his love of anything chocolate and enjoying his "Holiday Manhattan." Henry will be missed by everyone he touched. The family wishes to thank Dr. Brian Moloney, M.D., for his many years of expert care of Henry, as well as Dr. David Tabor and Dr. Chester Wilson and the nurses and staff of Michiana Hematology Oncology for their compassionate and loving care of Henry during these last few months. A special thanks to Hospice for their support and guidance. May God Bless All of You!
