Stanley P. Zmyslo

Jan. 31, 1920 - April 4, 1997

Stanley P. Zmyslo, 77, of Greenleaf Lane, South Bend, Ind., died at 6:25 a.m. on Friday, April 4, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

Mr. Zmyslo was born Jan. 31, 1920, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. He retired in 1982 from the Torrington Company.

He was married Feb. 2, 1946, in South Bend, to Loretta Janiszczak, who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Paulette Zmyslo of South Bend; three sons, James (Charlotte) Zmyslo of Bowie, Md., Ronald Zmyslo of South Bend and Alan (Lynn) Zmyslo of Hendersonville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Kim Tarnacki of Indianapolis, Ind., Karyn Tarnacki of Merriville, Ind., and Amanda, Jennifer, and Michael Zmyslo of Hendersonville; a sister, Bernice Chrobot of South Bend; and three brothers, Florian, Aloysius and Ben Zmyslo, all of South Bend.

Mr. Zmyslo was a veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of the National Organization of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3194, and the American Legion Pulaski Post 357.

He was inducted into the Indiana Polka Hall of Fame. He was a lifelong musician and music teacher. He received a Distinguished Hoosier Award from former Gov. Evan Bayh.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Entombment will be in the Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum in St. Joseph Cemetery.
