WASHINGTON BENSINGER

WASHINGTON BENSINGER was born in the township where he resides December 25, 1834, one of nine children born to Adam F. and Elizabeth Bensinger, who were among the early settlers of Sullivan County, they being natives of Germany, who came to this country when quite young. Adam was born in 1787, and died in 1844, his wife, Elizabeth, dying in June, 1871. He received but little education, and was raised to farming, and now owns 200 acres of excellent land. September 1, 1856, his marriage was solemnized with Catharine McCormick, and to their union eight childen have been born, of whom five are living--Harriet, James F., Dora, Alonzo and Lloyd, born respectively May 2, 1857, October 15, 1858, January 21, 1862, September 23, 1863, and May 31, 1871. Mr. and Mrs. Bensinger are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Bethlehem, near where they live. Mr. B. being one of the Trustees of the same. He is a Republican.
