R. J. TurmanTURMAN, R. J., farmer, was born in Sullivan County, July 6, 1837, married Paulina A. Wible April 3, 1864. The result of this union is as follows: J. E. Turman, born March 4, 1S65; Wm. T. Turman, born June 19, 1867; J. L. Turman, born Feb. 13, 1869; W. R. Turman, born Dec. 23, 1870; Flora L. Turman, born Dec. 25, 1872; F. W. Turman, deceased, born May 13, 1876; Davie M. Turman, born Feb. 18, 1878; Avarilla W. Turman, born June 1, 1880; Elmer C. Turman, born May 30, 1882, died June 10, 1882 ; Hattie A. Turman, born Oct. 31, 1883; Ross J. Turman, born Feb. 22, 1886; Hottie C. Turman, born July 21, 1889; Mrs. Turman died Feb. 2, 1890. The ancestors of the subject of this sketch and for whom the township was named, were among the earliest pioneers of the county and endured all the hardships incident to the times. The numerous descendants, many of whom live in the township, are among the most prominent and highly respected citizens of the county. - Turman Twp.
