SULLIVAN
The capital of Sullivan county, on the Evansville & Crawfordsville railroad,
twenty-six miles from Terre Haute, and eighty-three from Evansville. It was
established as a town and the county sent in 1842, but made slow progress until
the completion of the Evansville & Crawfordsville railroad, since which time it
has had a steady and healthy increase, and now contains a population of 1,500.
The town is beautifully laid out, with good streets. It has several fine
churches, excellent schools, and a good representation of the different trades
and professions.
