Sullivan County Obituaries - Mary Dunbar Beard

April 12, 1871 Wednesday Sullivan Democrat

Died - At her residence in Turman township on the 5th day of April, 1871, Mrs. Mary Dunbar Beard, relict of William Beard, deceased aged 64 years and 6 months.

Mrs. Beard was born in Spencer county, Kentucky in the year 1806. Her husband was born ini the same county, in the year 1804 and being married in Kentucky, they came together to Indiana in the year 1826 and settled on the farm where they both died. Mr. Beard died May 14th, 1865. They both died in the house where they first settled. Mrs. Beard had lived there 44 years. They settled in Indiana at an early day when this country was a wilderness.

Mrs. Beard left ten children, five sons and five daughters, to mourn her loss. But "they sorrow not as those that have no hope".

Mrs. Beard was a Christian; she had been a member of the Church of Christ eleven years and six months and it can truly be said of her that she "died in the Lord". She was buried at Harris-Alkire Cemetery in Turman Township.
