Sullivan County Obituaries Joseph Burnett
Sullivan Democrat, 3 May 1876 Joseph Burnett, one of the old settlers of the county, departed this life on the 10th of February 1876, at his home near New Lebanon. He was born in Kentucky, September 13, 1809. His father moved to Sullivan county in 1813, and settled on Gill’s Prairie. Old Father Burnett’s associates in those days were Squire Creager, George Boon, Squire Maxwell, Bailey Johnson, Judge Whittlesey, Henry Franch, William gill, Mr. Lisman, Edward Bowles, peter Moore, Jordan peters and others. These are all gone. In politics the deceased always voted the Democratic ticket and in religious belief he was a firm and consistent Methodist. He joined the church when he was quite young, living in the faith to the end of life, and when he came to die, said all was well. His end was peace and his resurrection will be glorious. His funeral will be preached on the first Sabbath in May, by Rev. Meginnis at New Lebanon. It is requested as many old settlers of his age as can come will attend.
