WHITE posted by Ellen White on Friday, January 2, 1998

Is there a cemetery index surname list for gravesites for Sullivan Co.? Cass township in particular, I am trying to track down WILLIAM AND MARTHA WHITE who lived in Cass Township from about 1860 to and where also in 1880 census. William's age was given as 68 on the census but believe he would be about 70, wife Martha's age unreadable, but she was about 10 years younger.

COCHRAN posted by Dar Hackle on Friday, January 2, 1998

I am looking for a birth registration for a Sarah Ellen COCHRAN, born 9Sept1859. I don't see any indexes for that far back, and wonder if there are any public records to search , since I have an exact date? Would it be better for me to try a newspaper announcement, and if so what paper might that have been in? I have do idea what area of Sullivan Co my Sarah was in. She came from a very large family, but I don't know if she was among the oldest or the youngest, so census record may not help.

CAMISH, CRAITOR, HIATT, WALDEN, WALTON posted by Nora Hiatt on Monday, January 12, 1998

Mary Josephine was born 5 August 1857. We always assumed her name was Mary Josephine McCAMISH. However on the 1860 Sullivan Co. Census she is living with her mother and father with the last name of WALDEN. There is a record of a marriage in Sullivan Co. for John McCAMISH and Rachael WALTON dated 22 Nov 1858. I would assume this means that John McCamish was her stepfather. What happed to her real father? To further confuse the issue, she used the last name CRAITOR on her marriage license when she married Mark HIATT in Labette Co. KS 5 July 1877. I know that the McCamish family came to Ks in 1869 and I and my cousin have both searched for a prior marriage record for her. I know except on two of her children's birth records she always used the last name McCAMISH. Can someone solve this riddle? TIA
