Entered service April 27, 1918, attending auto mechanics school at Purdue.  Sailed from Hoboken, July 14, landing in England.  Sent to France with 90th Div.  Saw active service and was with the Army of Occupation, 344th Field Artillery.  Born at Lafayette, January 19, 1896, son of Joseph and Katherine G. Ardapple.  Graduated from Lafayette high school and Business College.  Home is at Lafayette, Indiana.

DR. ARETT CAMPBELL ARNETT

A member of the National Guard, enlisted while at medical college.  Saw service on the Mexican Border.  Entered service Aug. 5, 1917.  Stationed at Ft. Harrison, Ind., and Camp Mills, N.Y., with Rainbow Division.  Saw service in France, having organized Camp Hospital No. 15, and was in charge of surgery. In latter part of March, 1918, was sent to the front where he did surgical work, being assigned to the French and American armies.  Had his own operating train until signing of armistice.  He was burned with mustard gas, and is wearing stripe as result.  Promoted to Major in September, 1918.  Born at New Richmond, Ind., Aug. 21, 1882, son of Albert Jefferson and Elizabeth M. Arnett.  Wife is Ethel M. Arnett.  Graduate of Indiana Medical College.  Home is Lafayette, Ind.

A.  May 5, 1918 he was transferred to Camp Jackson, S. C., and assigned to the 15th Bn., F.A.R.D.  June 1, 1918 was commissioned second lieutenant.  In July, 1918, was ordered to the shcool of fire at Ft. Sill, Okla.  Transferred and assigned to the 72nd F. A. at Camp Knox, Ky.  Was ready for overseas service when armistice was signed.  Received his honorable discharge, Dec. 21, 1918.  Born in Benton County, Aug. 20, 1895, son of Thomas A. and Eva M. Baldwin.  Attended school at Oxford, Ind., and Purdue University.  Home is West Lafayette, Ind.

Entered service in April, 1917.  Stationed at Ft. Bliss, Tex.  Saw oversea service, with Hospital Co., No. 12.  He participated in the battles of Toul, Santingy, Montdier, Aisne, St. Mihiel and the Meuse, on the Argonne front.  Born at Mulberry, Ind., March 12, 1896, son of Isaiah and Rebecca Bates.  Attended Lafayette schools.  Home is Lafayette.

ELIAS BAUMGARDT

Entered service May 25, 1917.  Stationed at Camp Taylor, Ky.; transferred to Ft. Harrison, Ind, and assigned to the 22nd engineers.  Transferred with his entire company to Camp Upton, N.Y.  Saw service in France.  A member of Co. G. 22nd engineers, 3rd Bn.  Born at Lafayette, Ind., Jan. 14, 1892, son of Henry and Clara L. Baumgardt.  Graduate of St. James Lutheran School.  Home is Lafayette.

THEODORE BAUMGARDT*

Entered service in April, 1917.  Stationed at Ft. Harrison, Ind., and Camp Mills, N.Y.  Sailed for France in October, 1917, as a member of Battery C.  Had a miraculous escape from death on the battle front Aug. 6, 1918.  While watering his three horses a German shell burst near him instantly killing the horses and wounding him slightly in the leg.  Died while in service, February, 1919, of pneumonia.  Born at Lafayette, Ind., Sept. 8, 1897, son of Henry and Clara L. Baumgardt.  Graduate of St. James Lutheran School.  Home was Lafayette, Ind.

ANETA P. BEADLE

Entered service Sept. 13, 1918.  Stationed at Camp Jackson, S.C., and later transferred to Camp Hancock, Ga.  Sent to Ft. Riley, Kan., in March, 1919, and then transferred to Ft. Bayard, New Mexico.  Received three months training at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette, Ind.  Born at Rochester, N.Y., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George B. Beadle.  Graduate of Centennial school, Jefferson high school and Purdue University.  Home is Lafayette.

CLARA LOUISE BEEHLER

Entered service in April, 1917.  Stationed at New York.  Sailed from the latter place in May, on the "Mongolia," was on board at the time of the accident when two nurses were killed.  Returned to New York and sailed later, landing at Folkstone, England.  Transferred to London.  Saw service in Frances in British Base Hospital No. 18.  Was in General Hospital No. 18 twenty months and six months with the Army of Occupation.  Born at Huntington, Indiana, July 15, 1891, daughter of L. E. and Indiana M. Beehler.  Graduate of Lafayette high school and Illinois Training school for Nurses, Chicago, Ill.  Home is Lafayette, Ind.

Harrison, Ind., May 11, 1917, for the first officers' training camp, where he received his commission as captain.  Instructor in second officers' training camp at Fort Harrison, Ind., and in third officers' traing camp at Camp Taylor, Ky.  Completed the course in School of Fire, at Ft. Sill, Okla., in August, 1918.  Captain Headquarters Co., No. 327, F.A. at West Point, Ky.  Arrived in France at a camp near Bordeaux, France.  Born at West Lafayette, Ind., Dec. 20, 1891, son of Charles Woodruff and Anna Rundle Bone.  Graduate of Culver Military Academy.  Home is West Lafayette, Ind.

"President Lincoln," Oct. 18, 1917.  Arrived overseas, Oct. 31, 1917.   2nd Battalion entrained and arrived at Camp de Coetquidun, Nov. 11, 1917.  Ordered to 1st Corps Artillery School in France, Jan. 2, 1918.  Jan. 15, 1918, ordered to Blois, where he received his honorable discharge Jan. 19, 1918.  Born at Lafayette, Ind., June 117, 1881, son of the late Columbus and Lotta Orr Brockenbrough.  Wife is Blanche P. HENRY W. BROCKENBROUGH

Entered service in May, 1917.  Stationed at Ft. Harrison, Ind., where he received commission in August, 1917.  Sailed for France Sept. 11, 1917, landing Oct. 2, 1917.  Attended Field Artillery School at Saumur for three months.  Assigned tothe 151st F. A., Battery B. 42nd (Rainbow) Division in January, 1918.  Went to the front in February, 1918, the 151st F.A. being in active service with the (Rainbow) Division.  Saw service on the Lorraine front for 110 days, and later was moved to the Campagne sector and participated in the offensive from July 15, 1918, to July 18, of the same year.  Took active part in the Chateau Thierry offensive and the St. Mihiel drive, and last at the Verdun sector. Was wounded at Verdun Oct. 14, 1918, when serving with the Infantry, and was removed to Base Hospital No. 32, where he was a patient for three weeks.  Was on his way back to join his battery, Nov. 11, 1918, the day of the signing of the armistice.  With the Army of Occupation in Germany.  Born at Lafayette, Ind. July 6, 1893, son of Mrs. Nell Wallace Brockenbrough.  Graduate of Purdue University.  Home is Lafayette, Ind.

Base Hospital.  Transferred to Base Hospital, Camp Sheridan, O., Jan. 3, 1919.  Discharged from hospital Jan. 23, 1919, and received his honorable discharge from U.S. Army Jan. 28, 1919.  Born at Lafayette, Ind., May 16, 1887, son of Mrs. Eva Welch Jones.  Wife is Rena Scott Brown.  Graduate of Michigan Military Academy.  Home is Toledo, Ohio.

HENRY CLIFTON BRYAN

Leavenworth, Kan., but was not given active service.  In May, 1918, he entered Officers' Training Camp at Champaign, where he finished ground work.  Sent to Rantoul, Ill., where in November, 19181, he received his commission.  Was sent to Arcadia, Fla., where he took advanced training in flying.  Born near Lafayette, Ind., April 26, 1889, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Bryan.  Graduate of Purdue University.  Home is Route A, Lafayette, Ind.

CHARLES WESLEY HICKMAN, JR.

Entered service April 16, 1917.  Enlisted at Newport, R. I.  Was assigned to patrol boat duty on the Rhode Island coast.  In December, 1917, he received the commission of ensign and in January, 1918, was assigned to duty on the U.S.S. "San Diego," Armored Cruiser, which was doing convoy service, July 19, 1918, while preparing to make the fifth trip across, this vessel hit a mine and was sunk fifty miles off the coast of Fire Island near New York.  Of 1250 men only six lives were lost.  In August, 1918, he was assigned to destroyer duty in foreign waters and sailed Sept. 16, 1918, landing at Liverpool, Eng., where he was ordered to the U.S.S. destroyer "Manley."  Was advanced to Junior Lieutenant in Sept.  He was on duty on this vessel until it returned to the United States, Jan. 3, 1919.  He was ordered to inactive duty, Jan. 23, 1919.  Born in Warren County, Jan. 6, 1895, son of Charles Wesley and Elizabeth Johnston Hickman.  Graduate of Purdue University.  Home is Lafayette, Ind.
