1-Isaac FISHER
, son of Comfort FISHER and Mary ANDREWS , was born on 8 May 1802 in Obid, Cayuga Co., NY, died on 25 Mar 1881 in Tippecanoe Co., IN, at age 78, and was buried in Pierce Cemetery, Tippecanoe Co., IN.

NOTE: It is thought that Comfort Fisher and Mary Andrews (daughter of Isaac Andrews) were the parents of Isaac Fisher - however it is unproven at this time.  It has been said by another researcher that Comfort Fisher left his family before 1820 and went to Illinois.  His children were taken care of by their grandfather, Isaac Andrews.

Below are some census records showing Comfort Fisher and Isaac Andrews in close proximity:

Comfort Fisher has been found in the following census records:

Isaac ANDREWS : 1 male age 45+; 1 female age 45+

Comfort FISHER:

Isaac ANDREWS : 1 male 45+; 1 female 45+

Isaac ANDREWS : 1 male 16/26, 1 male 45+ ; 3 females 10/16, 2 females 45+

Comfort FISHER: 1 male 45+

In 1850 he was living in Bond Co., IL, in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mabel and Henry Lynch.  His age was given as 77 and his birthplace was Vermont.   Children listed James Mathers,. Aaron Mathers, Mary Mathers, Kendall, Herman and Mary Andrews . Mary claimed support from Comforts war record.

A note regarding Mary Andrews from the GedCom file submitted to Rootsweb by (name is listed as unknown name) email address: leeds@athenet.net

"Polly Andrews, daughter of Isaac S. Haroot Cahoon Andrews, married Comfort Fisher in Connecticut about 1800. To them were born five children: one daughter who married George W. Miller, one married Frank Lynch, and one married a Messinger. A few months before the birth of the youngest child, Comfort Fisher left his family and went to Illinois where he served in the Civil War.

The youngest daughter married G. W. Miller in 1828 in New York State. They emigrated to Indiana and in 1852 came to Bond County with nine children, five sons and four daughters. Their farm was south of Woburn and Mr Miller, one son and one daughter are buried on the hill which overlooked the house they built.

Mrs. Miller had been reared by her grandfather, Isaac Andrews, who was a surveyor, she never saw her father, Comfort Fisher, until they had settled in Bond County.  Her husband, George Miller, heard he was living in Edwardsville, and he went there and brought him back with him to make his home. He died in 1853 the same month after his wife, and they are buried side by side in the Sutton Hasting graveyard."

Isaac Fisher

Before me, Daniel Royse, clerk of the Civil Circuit Court in and for the county and state aforesaid personally appeared ISAAC FISHER, who being by me duly sworn declares his post office address is Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, that he is the applicant for pension in Father's Claim No. 187.805 and that he under oaths makes the following answers to the questions in Pension C*

First. He has resided near Lafayette Indiana six miles northwest, sixteen years last past resided at one place during all that time his son supported him. He is married but the mother of his son, who supported him, is dead.

Second. He had no property of any kind except a small quantity of household furniture not to exceed twenty dollars. He now has twenty four acres of land which was purchased by his said son for him, this claimant, after said son enlisted and which was paid, though barely worth the amount now, $320. The land is hilly and very poor not more than six acres tillable or productive. It is located about six miles north west of Lafayette Tippecanoe County Indiana. Since his said son's death he has been supported by the products of said land, tilled by himself, by the bounties and back pay received from the government by -- of the death of said son and by his own feeble exertion often since said son's death he has been greatly in need of the necessaries of life, clothing and fold and is now so in need.

Third. His age is sixty eight years May 8th 1870. Health tolerably good by reason of old age and weak eyes he -?- when his son began supporting him and is now unable to do any material labor or earn sufficient for his support. He has been employed by the following named persons living in his vicinity: John Rosser, John Scott, Aaron Casad, Frederick Bahlts and Isaac Gowen, John Stites. Has had no physician for himself since said son began supporting him.

ALMINA B. GOWEN, aged 33 years, residence Brookston, Indiana
SARAH J. TOLBY, aged 26 years, Battle Ground, Indiana
Said children are the only children of the claimant and have not contributed to his support at all. They are all married.

Fifth. Said son's age at time of death nearly 21 years, over 20 years. He lived at home all the time he supported this affiant except when working for others and while in the army, assistance was rendered to claimant from about the 1st day of December 1857 to date of son's death December 31, 1862. His occupation was then of a laborer on a farm and his earnings were $12 per month.

Said son worked for Wiley Eldridge who has since removed to Illinois exact locality no known, Silas Morehouse who resides near Octagon, Tippecanoe County, Indiana; ELIJAH HILL who resides near Montmorency, Tippecanoe County, Indiana; and with the claimant or _?_ such others. The earnings were generally given to the affiant in money, son didn't purchase for him to any material extent(?), claimant has received no bounty except from the government under acts of July 22d 1861 $100, and July 28, 1866 $100, and the back pay due at the time of son's death about $50. Said son while in the army sent this affiant $35 besides the land he now lives on.

Signed: Isaac Fisher

Subscribed and sworn to before me this 4th day of August 1870 and I certify that the affiant is a reputable and credible person, that the foregoing affidavit was read to him before swearing and that I am not in any manner interested in his claim for pension.
