Obituary

Joseph Graves was born near Chillicothe, Ohio, June 26, 1823, and died at his home near Shawnee Mound, Indiana, October 16, 1890, after a lingering illness of more than a year.  He was one of the oldest citizens of Tippecanoe county, having come to Indiana and to this county when but a child.  Was a citizen of Jackson township for sixty years.  He was married to Lucy A. Kendall, December 21, 1847, and there were born to them six children: two of these, the oldest and youngest, preceded their father to the other world.  Though he was not a member of any church he was a firm believer in the Bible, and took great pride in living a moral life.  He was for many years a loyal member of the Masonic fraternity and was devoted to its principles and teachings.  He was known as a good citizen, an obliging neighbor, a kind and affectionate husband and father.  The funeral service was held at his home, Saturday, October 18th, where a large company of people assembled, after which his body was laid away in the Wheeler Grove cemetery.  The services were conducted by W. F. Clark.

Joseph was a son of William Graves and Edith Dixon. (family group sheet)
