Letter from James Ralph Smith to his mother, Anna Reeves Attmore-Smith of
Terre Haute, Indiana

Dear Mother
I recieve your letter and was glad to hear from you. You said that you
aint got no letters from me for 8 weeks. I don't see what is the matter for I
have been writing every two weeks.
I sent 3 silk handkerchief home have you got them yet. I have been feeling
very bad for the last two day with the fever but I feel all right to day but
I am nervest and can't hardly write. We ain't got a mushmen to do duty they
are all sick out of 400 men. gest think of that for sick men. I think we
will go in Manila soon.
I can't get my picture taken here. I will half to wait till I get in Manila.
Well I will close, will write more next time.

It begining to rain every day now over here We are going to stay in
this town till Nov and then we will go to Manila.
