Anna Reeves ATTMORE - SMITH a former resident of Terre Haute, died March 23,1933 in Delmar, Maryland from Liver cancer. She was born September 17, 1858 in Bridgeton New Jersey to Charles H. ATTMORE and Priscilla Attmore - SHEPPARD. On October 26, 1876 she married James Byron SMITH and they made their home in Vigo County, Indiana. Her husband, James Byron Smith preceeded her in death in December 1928 in Terre Haute. Also a daughter, May Smith preceeded her in death in 1877. Survivors include her son Carl Smith of Maryland, with who she resided, a son Ralph and his wife Mary Magnolia Smith - ALL, of Terre Haute, Indiana. Also several grandchildren. Burial is March 26, 1876 in Highland Lawn Cemetery Section 9 Block E Grave 46/47, Vigo County, Terre Haute, Indiana.

Mrs. STELLA J DAVIS, wife of Dr WILLIAM S DAVIS, died at her home, 1222 Scotten Avenue, Detroit, MI at 3:00 Thursday morning, following a serious operation. Mrs Davis was well known by many relatives and friends in Terre Haute and Brazil, having lived in Brazil as a girl and in Terre Haute after her marriage prior to moving to Detroit with her family three years ago. She is survived by her husband; two sons, SYDNEY and WILLIAM; two daughters, MARTHA and CATHERINE, of Detroit, and a married daughter, Mrs MARIAN SIMMS, of Terre Haute; Prof and Mrs THOMAS JAMES, of Brazil, her parents; GEORGE JAMES, brother, of Brazil; MILTON JAMES, of Terre haute; Mrs JESSIE HUNT, of North Dakota, a sister; Mrs RUTH MCNABB, of Montana, a sister. Mrs Davis was a daughter-in-law of Judge S B DAVIS, of Terre Haute, a member of the Presbyterian church and of many social and civic organizations. FRED A EARLES, 41 years old, died at his residence, 642 North Fourth street, Tuesday morning. His mother, Mrs Jane Hutton; step-father, J W Hutton, and one sister, Mrs Lavada Paul, of Evansville, IN survive. Funeral services in charge of the bartenders' union and the Eagles Lodge will be held at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be made in Highland Lawn cemetery.

BENJAMIN F FUNKHOUSER, an early resident of the city, and veteran of the civil war, 73 years old, succumbed to a prolonged illness at St. Anthony's hospital Sunday evening. The cause of the demise is said to be Bright's disease. Though ill for some time, Mr. Funkhouser was not taken to the hospital until Tuesday, when his condition became critical.

Benjamin F Funkhouser had lived in Terre Haute for more than fifty years. He was born in the county. When the civil war broke out he enlisted and served throughout hostilities. He returned to Terre Haute and lived here the remainder of his life. Upon his retirement from active work he and his wife lived with their daughter, Mrs LILLIE COX, 1832 North Eleventh street. His wife died two years ago and his health failed him since then.

Mr Funkhouser is survived by two daughters, Mrs Cox and Mrs HATTIE RYAN, of Sandford, Ind.

The funeral services will be held from the residence at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, burial in Highland Lawn cemetery.

The Terre Haute Gazette (April 8, 1904) reported "Ira D. Grover, for many years a leading druggist in Indianapolis, died in his apartment at the Blacherne early this morning, after an illness of many months. Mr. Grover was a man of strong personality and scholarly attainments and had a large circle of friends. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Ellen D. Grover, and two children - Miss Edith Grover and Arthur B. Grover. The funeral tomorrow will be private and the burial will be in Crown Hill. Mr. Grover was born in Columbus, Ohio in 1840. He went to Terre Haute at an early age, where he received his education. His early manhood was spent in Boston. He came to Indianapolis in 1880 and for 18 years was in the drug business. Two years ago he went into the real estate business with his son and was active until six months ago when he was compelled to retire owing to ill health. Mr. Grover was a leading member of Plymouth church. He was a descendant of a long line of distingu! ished New England ancestry, being in direct line from Governor William Bradford of Plymouth Colony. Deceased will be well remembered by older citizens. His father was one of the old settlers of Terre Haute. He was prominent in business, church, and social circles. Miss Jane Hersey, the old school teacher, was an aunt of the deceased. Ira D. Grover engaged in the drug business here for a time."

The Terre Haute Tribune (October 24, 1942) reported "Mrs. Mary Ann Grover [nee Friel], 78 years old, died at the residence, 1430 North Twelfth Street, at 3:30 o'clock Saturday morning. Surviving her are four sons, Harry and Robert of Terre Haute, John of California, and Ira of Milwaukee, one daughter, Mrs. Mayme Holmes of Terre Haute, one brother, John Friel of Indianapolis, 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Ann's Church, St. Ann's Alter Society, and the Auxiliary of Krietenstein Post No. 104, American Legion. The body was taken to the Callahan Funeral Home and will be returned late Saturday evening to the residence, where services will be held at 3:30 o'clock Monday morning with requiem mass at 9 o'clock at St. Ann's Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph's cemetery. The rosary will be recited at the residence at 8 o'clock Sunday night."

The Terre Haute Tribune (November 23, 1926) reported "Timothy W. Grover, 64 years old, died at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the residence 1430 North 12th Street, after a long illness. He is survived by the widow, Mary Grover; six sons, Ira of Center, N.M., John of Indianapolis, Bernard of Dallas, Tex., Robert of Binghamton, N.Y., and Earl and Harry of Terre Haute; and a daughter, Mrs. Fay Holmes of Binghamton, N.Y. The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock at the residence with continued services at 9 o'clock at St. Ann's Church. Burial is St. Joseph's Cemetery."

The funeral of Mrs LOUISE ANN HESS, who died at her home, five miles south of the city, Saturday, will be held Tuesday from the residence, burial in the Mt Pleasant cemetery. Mrs Hess was an old settler of this county. She is survived by her husband, five sons and two daughters.

Daniel Webster SMITH born 01-05-1927 in Terre Haute, Indiana, died April 26, 1965 at Terre Haute, Indiana. He was the son of Ralph Smith and Mary Magnolia ALL - Smith. On April 23, 1948 in Terre Haute, he married Nina Rosemary NOWTARS.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Donald L. Smith; Bruce A. Smith; Carol D. Smith and Susan L. Smith.

He is survived by sisters, Anna M. Smith; Helen M. POFF (William); and Rebecca A. MATHEWS (Raymond). His brothers, Carl M. Smith; James "Buzz" Smith and Earl C. Smith have preceeded him in death.

Burial is at Terre Haute, Indiana.

Carl Mason SMITH was born February 24, 1918 in Vigo County, Indiana and died April 27, 1961 in Terre Haute, Indiana.

He was the son of Ralph Smith and Mary Magnolia All-Smith who have preceeded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Mary Catherine FINTON to whom he was married since November 29, 1945.

Also surviving is a daughter, Carla Marie Smith and a son, John Ralph Smith.

Other survivors include his brother Daniel Smith and sisters, Anna M. Smith; Helen (William)POFF and Rebecca A.(Raymond) MATHEWS.

A brother James "Buzz" Smith preceeded him in death on January 03, 1951 and another brother, Earl C. Smith preceeded him in death on June 18, 1960 in Tucson.

Earl Clarence Smith was born 07-26-1924 in Vigo County, Indiana to the union of Ralph SMITH and Mary Magnolia ALL-Smith. He died June 18, 1960 in Phoenix, Arizona after having moved to there from South Bend, Indiana in 1959 for health reasons.

On December 20, 1947 in Terre Haute, he married Mildred A. PEASE who survives him In addition to his wife Mildred he is survived by children Michael Joseph Smith; Frances Smith and Earl Smith, Jr.

He is survived by brothers Carl M. Smith of Terre Haute; Daniel Smith of Terre Haute; sisters Anna Smith; and Helen M. (William) POFF of Terre Haute and sister Rebecca A. (Raymond) MATHEWS of Tucson, Arizona.

Burial is at Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, Arizona.

Samuel Cashmore, for many years a resident of Terre Haute, died Friday at Muncie, Ind., where he lived for the past ten years. He was 72 years old. Death followed a brief illness with pneumonia. Mr. Cashmore, while a resident of Terre Haute was employed as an iron worker and was active in labor circles. He was formerly vice president of the Amalgamated Association of Iron workers, in the Fifth district. The burial will be made at Muncie.

FARMERSBURG, Ind., Jan. 5. --- Phillip C. Reed, 94 years old, and a pioneer resident of Sullivan county, died early Saturday morning at his home near here. Death was due to general debility. For some time he had lived with a son, F. A. Reed. He is survived by three other children, James and Shelburn Reed and mrs. Belle Ritter. The funeral arrangements have not been made.

CLAY CITY, Ind., Jan. 5. --- Adam Morris, 55 years old, died suddenly at his home, two miles north of Clay City, Thursday afternoon. The Rev. J.F. Pettiford, presiding elder of the A.M.E. Evansville district was born Oct. 11, 1863 and died Dec. 13, 1911. He was born in Lawrence county, Ill He was member of the Indiana conference for twenty years. He had charge of the following churchs:
Lost Creek,Ind.,Greenville,O.,Settlement, Bloomington,Ind., New Albany,Ind., Washington, Ind. , Logansport, Ind. Noblesville, Ind. Kokomo,Ind., Marion,Ind., Evanville, Ind.,and Muncie,Ind.  He had been ill since September and had not been able to attend his duties. Many visiting ministers were here to attend the funeral
The funeral ceremonies were held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Allen's chapel

Funeral services for Arthur PETTIFORD 90 years old, who died Tuesday at the residence of his daughter, Mrs, Nila P. Manuel, 2132 Eight AVe, will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Lost Creek Baptist Church with Rev. C. M. C. Hammand and Rev. Noel E. Hord officiating. Burial will be in Stewart cemetary. Surviving besides the daughter are two sons, Robert R. and Royse W. , both of Terra Haute; four grandchildren, Mrs. Fern P. Stubbs, Berkeley, Cal. Mrs. Fayetta P. Stanley, Terra Haute, Mrs. Jewell P. Green, Brazil, and Mrs. Welcome M. Ellis, Kansas City, Mo. 13 great-grandchildren , four nieces and five nephwes. the body was taken to the Green Funeral Home and at 4 o'clock Wednesday aftrnoon returned to the residence of the daughter and will remain until time for the services.
