VANVACTOR,
JOHN FREDERICK
The Rev. John Frederick VanVactor III, 57, of Terre Haute, died Sunday,
June 20, 2004, in his residence. He was a minister in the United Methodist and United
Church of Christ parishes for over 30 years. He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Terre Haute to
John F. VanVactor II and Reva Maxine King VanVactor. He is survived by one daughter,
Charlotte VanVactor of Duluth, Minn.; one son, David VanVactor of Lafayette; two
grandchildren, Emma Katherine VanVactor-Lee and Simon Dean VanVactor-Lee of Duluth; his
mother, Maxine VanVactor of Terre Haute; his sister, Judy VanVactor of Elgin, Ill.; his
former spouse Joyce Dean, of Dayton, Ohio; nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
He was a bright and inquisitive child who showed an early gift for making friends. He
carried his relationship building skills into his adult life serving effectively as a
minister. He was a graduate of Indiana State University and Garrett-Evangelical
Theological Seminary on the campus of Northwestern University. He was active in a wide
variety of national and community organizations and was recognized as a talented preacher.
He was not a stranger to the stage and enjoyed both acting and directing. His many friends
saw him as a creative change agent always pushing the boundaries to open paths for peace
and justice. His deepest desire was to participate in creating a world of beauty and
harmony. His life will be celebrated in Central Christian Church at 6 p.m. on July 18. In
lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Central Christian Church, 4950 Wabash Ave., Terre
Haute, IN 47803, where a fund is established in his memory. DeBaun Funeral Homes assisted
with arrangements.

VEST, JAMES L.,
72 years old, died at 4:30 oclock Sunday afternoon at the residence nine miles east
of Terre Haute on the Margaret Avenue Road. He is survived by the widow, Anna Bell; one
son, Clarence, of Seminole, Okla.; one daughter, Mrs. Ester Taylor, of Detroit Mich.; one
brother, William Vest, of Terre haute; one step-daughter, Mrs. Mabel Brock, of R.R. 4,
Terre haute, Ind.; Three step-sons, Beldon Brenton, R.R. 1 Cory, Ind.; Curtis Brenton, of
Clinton, Ind., and Rev. Brenton of Terre Haute, and several nieces and nephews. The body
was taken to Fox Funeral Home in Riley.
