March 28, 1997
I'm looking for information on Ishmael Carver, born around 1805-09. His wife was Clarissa
Petch. They had four children, one son and three daughters. Ishamael is found on the 1840
Vigo CO., Indiana census. He may have had a father named Pleasant, a brother Jesse, and a
sister named Nannie. The Carver's may have lived in Crawford Co, Indiana. Rumor has it
that the Carvers were Riverboat Captains, traveling the Ohio River between Crawford Co.,
Indiana and Meade Co., Kentucky. Ishmael left Indiana and was found on the 1850 Missouri
census, then the 1860 Arkansas census. He is said to have died in Arkansas. Isaac,
Ishmael's only son came down to Texas and settled in Wilson Co. What happened to Clarissa
and the three daughters? Who was Ishmael and Clarissa's parents? Where did the Carver's
come from before Kentucky? Was it Virginia? If any of this sounds familiar please help
solve the puzzle before I get too old to see this computer screen!!!

Submitted by Carolyn Elliott Kelly 23 Sep 2002
Looking for marriage license of Lawrence COnnelly and Winifred Kane/O'Kane.dated Sept 6,
1960 Terre Haute, Vigo CO., IN Bk 2 P 337
The Vigo CO Courthouse stated that these were now at The Emaline Fairbanks Library. On
searching there the Bk pg ref is not available as it was on Microfile. Although I review
the records I apparently missed the searched for record. Winifred died shortly after their
daughter Anna was born and Winifred's sister and brother in law Patrick Roach)raised Anna.
Anna's death record was incorrect which I did receive from the Vital Records office.
Although they were far behind with anticipated 4-6 week wait for copy the clerk asked to
verify that the record on the books was the record I was looking for on Anna's death. It
listed her father's name Lawrence Connelly and the mother's as John Walsh, who was her
husband. My question, is there anywhere else that might have a copy or recorded info on
Winifred and Lawrence's marriage. I can't research accurately Lawrence without his date of
birth. There are several Lawrence Connelly's when I searched census and city directories
for the time period. Thank you for any guidance available.
