EAGLETON - McCULLOCH
Submitted by John McCulloch Harms August
10, 1996
Am tracing my ancestors from Vigo County. I traced my GGrandfather, Leander MCCULLOCH,
born in Terre Haute in Oct.1844. His father, John MCCULLOCH (MCCULLOCH, MCCULLOUGH) born
1816, married Emily EAGLETON, born 1822, in Vigo 18 Feb 1841. Both were born in Vigo.
Emily's father was Alexander R. EAGLETON, born 1801, and mother was Jane MCCULLOCH, born
1805, married in Vigo on 7 May 1826. Anyone that is familiar with the names McCulloch
(McColloch, McCullough) and Eagleton, and can help me trace further, will be appreciated.

I have been able to trace some of my ancestors to Vigo County as far back as 1801, but
that's it. Let me run by some names, and if possible, and if you have time, could you see
if I can get back a couple more generations? My GGrandfather, Leander McCulloch
(McColloch), was born in Terre Haute, Oct 23, 1844. His father, my GGGrandfather, John
McCulloch (McCullough, McColloch) was born in Vigo about 1816. His mother, Emily Eagleton,
was born there in 1822. Both John and Emily were married in Vigo on Feb 18, 1841. I have
not been able to trace back the names of John's parents, my GGG Grandparents (McCullochs,
McCollochs, McCulloughs, spelled all three ways in some census'). On the other hand, Emily
Eagleton's parents were Alexander R. Eagleton, born about 1801, and Jane McCulloch
(McCullah), born about 1805, both, I assume, in Vigo County. That's as far back as I have
been able to trace. They were married in Vigo Co. on Dec 7, 1826. As you can see, to add
to the confusion, I possibly have McCullochs on both the paternal and maternal sides of
the family.

EVANS
Submitted by Ian Meredith February 6,
1997
Evan or Evan James EVANS, from Twynyrodyn, Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, is known to have
returned to Wales from Terre-Haute, in Nov 1894, by train via New York and thence by boat
to Southampton, where they caught a train to Cardiff, according to a receipt for the
Journey. All for u14!! He was accompanied by his wife Elizabeth Morgan(s) and three
children, of which the eldest John James Evans was born at Laurel Run, Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
on 08/08/1888.
The next two children were Margaret (b Oct 1892/3), and Evan (Jnr.) (b 17 Jan 1893/4).
Margaret may also have been born at Wilkes-Barre. But they are also said to have been born
at "Fountainette" Thought to be a mistake in our Family Bible. PLEASE does
anyone have suggestions as to how I can find out more about them in America. Evan Evans
married Elizabeth Morgans at Porth, Glamorgan in 1886, and they were naturalised at
Luzerne Co. in 1892. Later children were born to them at Cwmbach, Glamorgan, and
Treherbert, Glamorgan.
Please help if you can. I have no information to prove the above (See NEPGS Journal Fall
1996)
