LACHER - KORS/KORHS
Submitted by Missy Gibbs Sep 26, 1997
I am looking for information regarding any LACHERs or KORS/KORHS. My ggg-grandfather
Joseph Robert Anthony LACHER was born in April 1835 in Switzerland. He arrived in the US
abt 1840...I don't know where. On May 19, 1863 he and Katherine Elizabeth KORS/KOHRS (b.
Jan 1846/48 in Prussia, arr. US abt 1848/50) were married in St. Joseph's University
Parish by Rev. T. Fintanus Mundwiler. They had the following children in Terre Haute,
Robert Henry (1865), Katherine Elizabeth (9/4/1866), and Frank (1869). The family moved to
Perry County Tennessee where the following children were born: Mary Helenah (8/8/1872),
Clara Mathilda (8/12/1876), Mathilda Gertrude (4/13/1878), Alyoisus (6/12/1881), and
Josephine Frances (3/12/1884). In Indiana he was a dairyman and in Tennessee he worked as
a brickmason. I've really hit a brick wall with these families....any help would be
immensely appreciated!!!

My grandfather, Edward Lammerts was born in Terre Haute, Ind. to 1)Jann and Hauke

on any subsequent censuses. I would like any information about what may have happened to

Most likely my 5th GGF Johan Henrich LAY, b. 1720 probably in DEU, is listed in 1782 in
Rockhill Twp., Bucks Co., PA Tax List, 300 Acres, as LEY's Estate, in 1780 & 1779 in

But my LAY/LEY/LEI/LOY/LEH/LYE line can only be traced back with definitive documentation
to the 1800 Census of Mifflin Twp., Cumberland County, PA, where my 4th GGF, John LAY was
listed. He was b. before 1755 in PA, 1m. Eva Margaret HENRY, had 5 sons and 3 daughters in
1800 (at least 2 more sons and 1 daughter were born after 1800), and d. c 1820 in Toboyne
Twp., Perry Co., PA. His second wife, Hannah, was b. 1770 in Philadelphia Co., PA. His
oldest child, a male, was b. between 1774 and 1784. A daughter, Catharine LAY, 1792-1876,
and her husband, Christian HENRY (1790-1871) were both born in Bucks Co., PA. Another son,
my 3rd GGF, John LAY, b. between 1790-1794, had a Sheriff's Deed issued on his Mifflin
Twp., Cumberland Co., land in 1825. His wife remarried to a LORE and had a son, Joseph
LORE (born c 1825) who lived in Terre Haute, Vigo Co, IN, in 1907. The LAY family
intermarried with the HENRY family and lived near each other in Henry's (Diehl's or
Sheaffer's) Valley, Perry Co., just over the mountain north of Mifflin Twp., Cumberland
Co.
