FORMER EDITOR DIES AT LAGRO “Ed” Purviance Victim of Throat Disease Lagro, June 25 - D. E. “Ed” Purviance, 72, died at 8:45 am today at the home of his son, Dr. Samuel J. Purviance. Mr. Purviance had been ill for more than a year with a throat disease. He was born in Huntington County and attended the public schools in Huntington, later moving to Andrews where he was employed in a general store and ran a weekly newspaper for a number of years. Forty years ago he moved to Lagro where he purchased a department store which he operated for many years. He also established the Largo Press and was active in the Citizens Bank. For many years Purviance was active in Republican circles, serving as county chairman and later becoming the postmaster at Wabash, where he served for eight years. He is survived by the widow and a son by a first marriage. One grandson also survives. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday at the Lagro Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. S. Howk in charge. Burial will be in the Andrews Cemetery. Journal-Gazette, Fort Wayne, IN, June 26, 1940.
