Mr. Watkins was a construction worker with Laborers and Hod Carriers Local 274 for more than 20 years, retiring in 1989. He served in the Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 492. He enjoyed gardening, watching sports and playing cards.

Surviving with his wife are a daughter, Rebecca L. Hale of Dayton; two brothers, Paul E. Watkins of West Lafayette and Robert "Bob" Watkins (wife: Margaret) of Lafayette; and three sisters, Georgie Watkins of Lafayette, Irma Strausser of Kentland and Lela Carr (husband: Vernon "Spud) of Monticello.

Friends may call at Hippensteel Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Sunday. Service in Hippensteel Chapel at 10 a.m. Monday, with Gene Muston officiating. Burial in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette. Surviving is 1 granddaughter, Cassie N. Jordan. Preceded in death by his parents, and 3 sisters, Freda Gavin, Barbara Watkins and Bernice Schaffer
