BECKWITH ROGERS, deceased, was a native of Hampshire County, Va., born January 14, 1832, and was a son of Nathaniel S. and -Rachael (Cain) Rogers. When Beckwith was but a small boy, his parents removed from Virginia to White County, and in 1844 settled in Princeton Township. The early education of Mr. Rogers was such as the common early district schools of White County were capable of bestowing; be remained at home and worked for his father until he was twenty four years of age. The marriage of Mr. Rogers to Miss Eliza Whip, a Virginian and a daughter of William and Sarah Whip, occurred August 6, 1855. Mr. Rogers farmed on his father's land until August 10, 1862, when he enlisted in Company G, Sixty-third Indiana Volunteers; he was honorably discharged at Greensboro, N. C., June 21, 1865. After returning, he farmed for a short time on rented land. In 1868, he purchased the farm on which he lived and owned until his death , which occurred June 23, 1882. Mrs. Rogers still owns the farm, and is in good circumstances. To Mr. and Mrs. Rogers were, born five children, viz.:Amos, Sarah M., Cora D., Ina and Harvey. Mr. Rogers was a member of the Christian Church, and Mrs. Rogers is also a member of that church. He was a stanch Republican and one of the most enterprising men in Princeton Township.
