Thank you for your work on the Indiana Mexican War Veterans, I found the information extremely helpful in helping me with the history of my 2nd great-grandfather, Jacob Harrison Hemp a Private in Company I, 2nd Indiana. Jacob Harrison Hemp was born 22 September 1826 in Harrison Co., Indiana, the last of 5 children born to Jacob Hemp and Catherine Blume. Jacob was a carpenter by trade for his entire working life. He married Rachael Nadal, the daughter of Thomas S. Nadal and Elizabeth Gafford in Louisville, Kentucky on 15 January 1862. He and Rachael had 4 children and resided in Louisville until the late 1890's when they returned to New Albany and the Silver Hills area. Jacob died in New Albany on 07 December 1915 at the age of 89. He is buried with his wife Rachael in the New Albany National Cemetery, his stone bearing the inscription of Pvt. Co. I., 2nd Ind. Inf.
