Captain
Reese Brummet Brown County. Mustered in 18 Jun 1846, at New Albany, Indiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill, died 25 Jul 1846. He was a cousin to Joshua Brummet Jr. listed above. Riece/Reese (b 1820/25) was the son of Banner C. Brummet (1789-1880) and Eva Stephens (1792-1880). Riece/Reese married Orry (or Orea) Long 15 Jan 1846 in Brown Co., The 1850 census lists Orry Brummit, 24, with a 2 yr old son, William R., so there's a question either about the census accuracy or the son's paternity. She remarried to Mathias Deringer 24 Jan 1853 in Brown Co. Source is [1], and Don Zimmerman at email DonaldZ430@aol.com James Taggart Brown County. Williamson Wise Brown County. Mustered in 18 Jun 1846, at New Albany, Indiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill, mustered out 24 Jun 1847, at New Orleans, Louisiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill. In the 3rd Regiment, Indiana Volunteer Infantry, Co E, there is a 2nd Lieutenant Williamson Wise. Bennett Wise, a younger brother to Williamson Wise, had a son named Williamson Wise. In a Brown County genealogical study this younger Williamson Wise is listed as having married the Elvira Hatchett, daughter of William Hatchett who served with the elder Williamson Wise. The Williamson Wise who served with William Hatchett is somewhat missing after the Mexican War. He doesn't show up in Brown County records after 1837 although your info shows he mustered out in 1847. Do you have any additional information regarding what may have happened to the elder Williamson Wise? Any input you can provide would be appreciated. Mustered in 18 Jun 1846, at New Albany, Indiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill, mustered out 24 Jun 1847 at New Orleans, Louisiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill. I had a look at your list of Indiana Soldiers in the Mexican War and noticed that a second Joshua Brummet (Jr.) was missing. He doesn't show up in some other sources either, possibly being confused with his cousin Joshua Brummet (Sr.) that is listed. However, I have service and pension records that prove his service. Joshua Brummet (Jr.) was born 25 Apr 1824 in Monroe Co, Indiana, the son of James Brummet III (1795-1837) and Easter/Esther Brummet (1804- ) who were first cousins. Joshua married 24 Feb 1850 to Mary West Prosser in Brown Co, Indiana, and died 24 Oct 1895 in Wayne Co, Illinois. Joshua and Mary had a big family: John Reece, Easter Narcisis, James Lewis, Ren Buchannon, Christopher Columbus, Sarah Clementine, Robert Newton, Georgia, Rachel, Catherine A., Margaret Isabel (my grandmother), an infant son, and Allen Stover. Joshua (Jr.) joined on 17 Jun 1846 Capt Taggart's Co., 3rd Regt, Indiana Infantry at New Albany, Ind. They went to New Orleans, then to the Texas coast by ship. Joshua's cousins, Joshua (Sr.) and Reece Brummet died on the ship or in Texas, possibly from measles. The regiment must have been part of Gen. Zachary Taylor's army of the Rio Grande, which had several engagements as it proceeded southward. The major battle was at Buena Vista, 21-22 Feb 1847, and according to Joshua's pension application he fought there. The company captain, James Taggart, was killed in this battle. Joshua was discharged in New Orleans 24 Jun 1847. Apparently the designation of Jr. and Sr. was used by the military to distinguish between the two Joshua's. Mustered in 18 Jun 1846, at New Albany, Indiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill, mustered out 24 Jun 1847, at New Orleans, Louisiana, by Colonel Samuel Churchill. My great-great-grandfather Phillip Pike was a private in the Mexican War, Company E commanded by Thomas M. Adams. Co E. 3rd Regiment of Indiana Volunteers, commanded by Col. J. R. Lane. On a copy of the Mexican War Pension Declaration of Survivor for Pension" dated March 26, 1887, Phillip Pike states that he was mustered into service at New Albany, Indiana on 25 June 1846 and went from there to New Orleans, La. and then to Brazos Island and was with the army on all travels through Mexico for a year. He was engaged in battle with the enemy in the war with Mexico in the battle of Buena vista on the 22nd and 23rd of February 1847. He has honorably discharged at New Orleans, La on 29 June 1847. He was born 6 Nov. 1825 at Irvine, Ky., Estill County. He came to Brown County, Ind. with his mother and sister Louisa. Louisa married John Fox 27 March 1843. ( I have her lineage from then to this date if you want it). I also have information from him to now, but do not know who is parents were. I feel I have exhausted all searches. Maybe someday I will happen upon it. Source for this information is Shirl McKinley, at email address nanashirl@yahoo.com. William H. Raper Brown County. Indiana, and Winnie Webb Chitwood of Tennessee (date of marriage 1800, in Tennessee). Lazarus was one of 13 children as follows: John, James (1815 Tennessee - 1861 or 64 Indiana), Daniel, Alexander, Cornelius, Isaac, Martha, Shadrack, Lazarus (1801 TN - 1847 Mexico), Robert (1803 - ?), Elizabeth (1804 - ?), Pleasant Emanuel (1811 - 1873).
